Future Sabre

Grace got a stick to go along with the helmet and pads. She is ready for the draft.

We also had a large turtle in our yard. His shell was about 6 inches across. We keep seeing a bunny too, so we hope this means our snakes are gone.

Great Grandma and Great Grandpa Hartney

Grace really put on a show for Dan's grandparents. Some of it good, some of it bad.

Helmet and Pads

We had forgotten to bring home a helmet and pads, so we bought some before her next skating adventure. She liked them better than the skates.
On Thursday, we ventured to the Lockport Cave, along the Erie Canal. They were buit in the mid 1860's and are starting for form stalagtites and stalagmites (?). At the end of the tour, there is a wet boat ride. But not as wet as the downpour we entered after exiting the cave. We had to walk back to our car in torrential rain. We were soaked with no dry clothes to change into. It was the log flume all over again. Grace rode in her diaper on the way home.

Take A Little Trip

We took a trip down to East Aurora to the Explore and More museum. It is just the "right size for Gracie." She always enjoys the exhibits. This time she got to play with flubber, playdough, goop and moon sand. Her favorite was making a shaving cream picture.

We made a quick stop by Fisher- Price where we came home with:

She was happy skating on the sidewalk until she saw the bunny. Then she decided to walk across the neighbors' lawns to chase the bunny.

This is Fantasy Island

We spent the day at the amusement park. Grace got to ride so many things...and missed out on so many things she wanted to ride. The swings were way too high and the Beanstalk way "too scary". She probably wished she hadn't gotten on the log flume, as well all do. We were so "soak an wet" they even had to pump our boat out after the ride. We dripped for hours.
Grace fell asleep on the ride home about 5:30.

RIDES!

Too Cold to Swim

It has been unseasonably cold in Buffalo. We went swimming at Dan's aunt Joannie's pool but ended up spending most of our time in the hot tub. Grace braved the cold water for a little while to wear her goggles and lounge in the float.
Baby Morgan loves the water too!

Shuffle off to Buffalo

...and shuffle we did, with a 10 1/2 hour car ride, where Grace slept only 37 minutes. Typical! She was in a good mood the entire ride and even played from 11:30-1:00 am after we arrived at Nana's. We were greated by Aunt Elizabeth, who has spent the last two years in Uganda. Grace took to her right away.

Grace woke at 8:30 the next morning and stayed awake until midnight. We attended a party in Aunt Elizabeth's honor, and Grace was her social butterfly self. Three pieces of cake helped. She was asleep 5 minutes after we got in the car for the ride home.
Sunday, Baby Morgan, Uncle Dave and Aunt Lindsey came over to enjoy the sun. Later that evening, we took Grace to see our friends' baby, Lila. Grace was very taken with her. She even asked if she could hold her. Ugh, no!

The Many Faces of Grace

Happy 4th

We planned to stay and swim at our house, then take Grace to the parade and carnival in Davidson. After her refusal to nap and constant whine of " I want to go to the lake with Lily"and my reading that last year the Davidson event drew 7000 people to the small town...we decided to take the offer of spending the day at the lake.

Grace didn't really enjoy the water this time because of the roughness of the waves due to the increased boat traffic. She kept wanting to go on a boat ride and "go far away." We took a short ride then went back to cookout on the grill.

Around 9:30 the fireworks started around our house from the 4-5 different families shooting them off. Our neighbors kept them going until around midnight. We gave up and went in around 10:30. We were all VERY tired.

Full Day's Work

This morning Grace wanted to run around in her diaper, rain boots and hat.

In the afternoon, Dan left to get pool supplies. After his return, he came upstairs to see me working on this blog. We then heard a strange noise downstairs. When he got to the door, he found that Grace had opened it, gone outside to the driveway and found this:
I guess we now need to close the garage and lock the deadbolt at all times.

Playgroup Pool Party

Grace and I are members of two playgroups in the area. Yesterday, we hosted a pool party for some of the moms and kids. It was a little windy, but everyone seemed to have a great time.

Lake Day

Dan went on a work trip this weekend, and our neighbors were nice enough to invite us to the lake. The girls ate lunch at Lily's grandparents house (who live on the lake in Mooresville), swam in the lake and went for a pontoon ride. We then went to a restaurant for pizza. Grace forgot that Daddy wasn't home.
