Dentist Visit #2

I thought we were told at our first dental visit in February that this time she would get a cleaning with the real instruments, so I planned ahead. I gave Grace a little Tylenol and prepared myself for the crying. When we got there and learned it would just be an exam and a brushing with a regular toothbrush, I was a little let down. Not that I wanted to hear baby cry, but the anticipation had taken its toll.

So after the dental assistant's exam and brushing, I asked when she would get the real thing. I was told not until 3-4 years of age...but since she was doing so well, we could try her in the big chair. I asked Grace if she wanted to sit in the big girls' chair, and she nodded yes. So we put her laying down on her back with her head on the pillow. The assistant then just opened her mouth and examined her teeth...Grace was fine. Then she took out the rotary brush, and Grace started whining. But she didn't cry and she didn't try to get away. She ended up with about a 30 second brushing, which was a long time, according to the assistant. As soon as the brush stopped, Grace sat up and started talking.
She was a big girl after all.
